I have been one of the first proud owners of an OSTC by HeinrichsWeikamp, and I’m very happy with it.
There are a bunch of reasons for this dive computer:
- The whole firmware is Open Source! If you are missing anything on this computer, you can add it without buying new hardware!
- The protocol for downloading profiles is public, so developers of Logbooks will find it easy to adapt
- It has a very well readable display, even in complete darkness and very bad sight.
- It already supports up to 5 Gases, including Nitrox and Trimix
- Buttons can be handled without problems, even with dry-gloves
- All necessary information is on the display
- It’s easy to use, self-explaining
- Highly configurable (for experienced divers with good knowledge of decompression theory)
- It has a very fair price
- And last but not least, to show HeinrichsWeikamp they did a really good job and took another great step towards an open sourced world!

Sun released Comm API 3.0, but JDiveLog is still using 2.0. Unfortunately the download page for the Comm API 2.0 is hard to find, so here you are. We have to discuss whether we want to migrate to Java Comm 3.0, use the pure RXTX package (2.1 line, without Comm API needs) or stay with 2.0. Problem with 3.0: no windows support (yet?), Problem with RXTX 2.1: AFAIK no binaries for Mac OS X, Problem with Java Comm 2.0: how long can we download it? So please post your comments / opinions about this issue in our “Open Discussion” forum |

Logos wanted.
I still don’t have a logo for JDiveLog and it would be nice if the buttons for import, export, new dive and delete dive had an icon instead of text. A logo for the Taskbar would also be very nice.
So if you have a little time and experience in designing icons, I’d appreciate your help. |
